There were 2 tow packages that Jeep offered on the XJ: one for the 84-96 style, and one for the 97-01. The first (84-96) came with a HD radiator, tranny cooler, hitch, and 3.73 gears. The second (97-01) came with a HD radiator, tranny cooler, and hitch, but kept the 3.55 gearing.

They also had the option of skid plates and a trailer hitch was also an option.

Just because you had the towing package didnt mean you had a trailer hitch or skid plates it just meant you had the upgraded cooling.

thanks for the clear up. I only knew of the 2 i posted.

I did learn though that there was a tow package that 4.10 gearing, and even one that offered 4.56 gearing. Don't know of these were available in the US, or not, but it'd be pretty sweet to find one that had either of these.

yeah you can. It probably has the 3.73, but sending in the VIN will also give you every thing that your XJ has on it, which is nice to know.

Awesome. Thanks. This thing was kept in perfect shape by a church lady. I have every receipt for every oil change and minor repairs it has ever had. She bought it new for like 24 thou and some change. Nice find off of Craigslist.
