Default Different size tyres front and back

I've ended up with 225/70/15 tyres on the front wheels and 225/75/15 on the rear wheels.

I have a 1996 Cherokee Sport 4.0 automatic.
I have part-time and full-time 4 wheel drive.

While I don't see a problem in 2-wheel-drive I can see definite problems in part-time 4-wheek-drive as (as I understand it) the two axles are effectively locked together. I never use part-time but like to use full-time 4-wheel-drive in bad weather.

Will it be ok to use full-time four wheel drive with different tyre sizes? Are the axles turning independently?

Or should I bite the bullet and replace the nearly new front tyres?

Thanks

Garetna

You should not use 4wd. Put the tires on Craigslist our on our 4-sale forum and get ya the right size.

X2

Look at the condition of the tires and decide which size has the nicer tires.
Keep them. Get same size replacements for the other two wheels.

Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks for the quick response, I've ordered some new tyres for the front.
I was trying to save money but sounds like a false economy (fuel prices are even higher over here). It was about $11 per gallon a few weeks ago but now closer to $9 with the stronger dollar and price dip.
