differences of the 4.0L straight sixes
So I need an engine in my 2000 xj...However, they go for around 1000 or more bucks..I know the 97 thru 99's are way cheaper, and the only noticable difference i know of the newer and older 4.0l engines is the direct ignition system. Does anyone know of a site that lists all the differences between a stock 4.0l engine that comes out of a 1997 xj vs. one out of a 2000 xj? I am looking to retrofit a 96-99 engine into my 2000. Another difference i noticed is the temp sensor on the cylinder head right near the firewall. I know that my 96 had it, but the 2000 didn't..Does the 97-99 engines have the sensor?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Google can be your friend. The 97 and newer engines use a single sensor for the gauge and the PCM. It is easy to plug the hole if the sensor is not needed for your vehicle.
