Default Did stock exhaust have a dent like this?

I am having a new muffler and tail pipe installed this week. Last year when I had the guy replace my catalytic converter, he told me that the exhaust pipe just down stream of the collector was supposed to be there. At the time I had no idea and never got around to asking you guys. But does this look right? This picture is looking straight up from underneath the drivers side. The dent is on the inside (drive shaft side) of the exhaust just past the collector. Any one else have this?

mine has the same thing. i think it is just from when the suspension flexes out all the way maybe, or when you hit something really hard.

Mine doesn't look like that, and I swear I can see scrape marks on that one from where it hit something.

My thoughts exactly. I would think that if the manufacturer had put it there it would be smoother and look more like it is supposed to be there.

Anyone think this is affecting the performance (if there is such a thing) and would it make a difference if it was smooth?

Oh and WOW, talk about a quick response....thanks guys.

Its actually a factory dent, all XJ have that dent in the down tube. Some are scraped up from driveshaft rubbing, but thats why Jeep put it there in teh first place. But when you take in to account bushing wear and sagging stuff flexs more and things sit lower......causing things to come in contact.

Will you see a preformance gain by getting rid of it? Yes, but I doubt your seat of the pants Dyno will tell the difference.

I just replaced the downpipe on my Cherokee, and that dent was not there on the old pipe, and not there on the new one.
