Default Did A search, no find, "turn-stalk" removal

I am trying to remember where I saw a article which details removing the turn stalk assy from the steering column WITHOUT removing the steering wheel?

I remember reading that somewhere, but I can no longer find it.

I have a 91 Xj and both the cruise control AND the windshield wiper do not work......
(turn signal and brights/low beams work fine)

[the stalk is the one on the left side of the column, housing the intermittent wiper control, cruise control, low/high beam, and turn signals]

I have found part of a problem with the cruise control, a frayed speed control cable. I have the new one, have not put in yet.

I want to take the stalk off as I think the wiper switch is bad.

I can live without cruise, but wipers....well....I would rather have them ya?

any help here would be wonderful folks!

OKC had sent me some pdf's but I didnt see where one can remove the stalk by itself .....

thanks in advance!!!

on your model it's impossible to remove the assembly pieces without pulling the steering wheel. There is a lockplate behind the wheel that is coving the access to the screws holding the assemblies in place. And yes, your model has multiple separate assemblies for the components, not just a 1-piece unit.

Later models used a 1-piece unit that can be removed without pulling the steering wheel, you unfortunately don't have that luxury.

see, and who says folks ain't friendly?

thanks guys...... further diggin has revealed some interestin stufff!!!!!!!

one......am gonna change the speed control cable out (got a new one as the other was frayed near the TB connect point). If that solves problem B-E-A-UTIFUL!!!!!..

if not.....

two.......going to check pin outs and voltages at the main harness connector for proper voltages. If THAT is ok, then I know its not the switch......it is probably fuses, but I will check the ACCY and the STOP/HAZ fuses first AFTER I replace cable.. if that no workeee, then I am stuck an gonna have to get new turn lever assy. K-R-A-P.

meanwhile windshield wiper no longer functions.......looking at wiring diagram I see a 4.8 amp "circuit-breaker" for the windshield wiper/washer system. I do NOT see anywhere in my jeep a "circuit-breaker" any you know where this might be?

those issues are why I had asked about the turn-stalk removal procedure.
(in case it is the stalk switch itself)

Again many many thanks for those of you who have replied and assisted! I really do appreciate it!
