So i have a 88' xj with the 4.0 aqnd i just changed the spark plugs. I read all the info from my haynes manual and it said to put the gap at .035.
i did that and the damn thing still wont start. When i pulled the old plugs out they were gapped at .070. im not sure what to look for or anything. Or even where to start. the damn thing wont start though. It cranks over like it wants to start but just wont.

Did you get the plug wires back in the right places?

Like said, the Manual is dead wrong. #1 is at 5:00 as viewed from the side, 153624 clockwise is the firing order. (#1 is the front cylinder, then they go back)

Was it running before you changed the plugs?

Do you have spark? Are connections all firmly secured?

Lots of ways to check. I use a timing light. You can use a spark plug hooked up and lay it on the engine.

Take out the plug, put the plug wire back on it, hold the plug by the wire (important-don't hold a metal part) and let it touch a ground (like the valve cover). You should see the spark.
