Thanks for these HCV threads. Mine had 2 little pin holes in it spraying antifreeze everywhere. I just removed the HCV and connected the two hoses up. Both of my hoses were 5/8 all the way. I have read where some where saying they had 2 different sizes but mine were the same.

I removed the HCV a couple years ago and replaced both hoses with preformed 97+ ones. Originally I just bought the hose and made my own one piece units, no connectors to leak. The bends to go around the dip stick area were annoying me so when I flushed the heater core and the entire system again, I just opted for the 97+ hoses.
TWM, mine were 5/8 and 3/4 hoses.

For those of you that participated in the heater control valve (HCV) thread, why was it closed? Just so you can see, I took you guys' advice, and bit the bullet...no more heater control valves--I'm hangin wit da big boys :-)

Did you delete the surge tank as well? If not, then just fill from the surge tank like normal. If you deleted the surge tank, then you need a radiator cap somewhere or you're going to blow a line when it heats up.

Go with the specs for your Jeep. Double-check your manual (if don’t have it, access it online) or check with your local parts store
Side note: Remember to talk nice to your Jeep and ask her/him questions. This will help to discern what’s right for your Jeep

I’m preparing to do this and thermostat replacement. I looked at my heater hoses today and it appears both hoses from the stat & water pump to the valve are 5/8, and both hoses from the valve to the heater core connections are 5/8. I’ve seen other threads mention one hose should be 3/4. Anyone know if both hoses could be 5/8 in a ‘95 XJ? I know the hoses were replaced in the past before I owned the Jeep, but I wouldn’t think anyone could get a 5/8 hose on the 3/4 connections.
