Sorry to start *another* death wobble thread, but all of the ones I looked through were on lifted Jeeps, and under different circumstances. My XJ is riding at stock height. Up until recently, when I hit certain bumps and holes on the freeway, I'd get this tiny, kind of "springy," wobble, and only while I was on the bump/hole. The other day I was on the way to work, hit a bump on the freeway, and it shook like crazy for a few moments afterward. It scared the crap out of me, I thought I blew a tire doing 70ish! It happened again the next day, so now I've been avoiding the freeway. It doesn't happen at regular road speeds, no matter how bumpy the road. From the research I've done, I'm seeing that replacing the steering stabilizer is just a band-aid. Where should I start looking?

I'm interested in this too, while driving my wife's '99 on the highway, I hit a rather innocuous bump going 70ish and it sent a long shudder through the entire jeep, it was a crazy vibration in the steering wheel but didn't feel like I was going to go out of control or anything.

It doesn't sound like death wobble to be honest... It sounds like some mean wheel hop. Check your shocks. Jack up your ride and do the standard shake down. If you don't know the shake down I'll teach ya real quick lol. Jack it up grab your tire at 12 & 6 and shake then 3&9 and repeat on other side. If all feels tight your good. If all shocks and steering are good check your tires. Under inflated or separating bands can cause funky ride conditions.

The wheel hop makes sense. Like Bluekewlade said, the crazy vibration was in the steering wheel. Before it got bad, it seemed that vibration was coming from the drivers' side front too.

Sounds like bad track bar bushings. this can happen on non lifted vehicles too not just lifted. i would still check everything else like tie rod ends , ball joints, shocks and bushings. but most likley track bar is your problem
