Death wobble
Bought the Cherokee about a month ago, Drove it for approx. 650 miles had no problems at all. Then out of nowhere I got this violent vibration.
It seems to start after hitting a small bump or crack in the road at 40 mph and higher goes away when you slow down. Here is what I have done so far: Replaced trans mount, Replaced upper and lower control arm bushings, Replaced all 4 shocks, Replaced both front axle u-joints, both front wheel bearings are good during inspection. Replaced steering damper shock, Rotated tires, took it to the local muffler man, ball joints ,tie rods, track bar, everything under the front end is tight. There is a small amount of play in the steering gear box but not bad. Any Thoughts ? I am tired of putting money into this.

OMFG! I remember when I had this......I just killed all the weak links since I was lifting it....Upgrade tie rod, new tie rod ends, upgraded to a xtreme duty steering stabilizer, trackbar blah blah, ball joints..........and had it aligned after I had 1 tire that was destroyed from new to PWNED in 4 weeks. Hahah. I did an axle swap and aligned it by eye and was 6 degrees off.

Everything is stock except the tire size 225/75/15 came with 215 I think. No I have not checked that. How do you do that?

Have it aligned. Most places willl give you a free alignment check. Call around and find a place that will..take it, find out.........and if it's off, pay the $60-80 for it...cuz it's worth it.
Lucky for me my friend does it after hours for $20 and a few beers.

If it's off bro, it will shake.......But you can just ignore my suggestion and pay $100 for a new tire or tires....
When one tire is pointing straight and the other is off just a hair, you are now working against the natural parallel path the wheels travel. Mine would shake around 30, and go away around 40-50....or as soon as I apply the brakes.
Next time it starts shaking apply ur brakes.......gently. If it stops.......Alignment could be why.

one thing that really causes this over an alignment problem is check to make your trac bar is tight , and sometimes it seems tight , but the hole in the bracket down the axel gets wallowed out and the bolt still moves in the hole regaurdless how tight the bolt is , that was my problem , if that is your case theres a few ways to fix it , i welded the hole then redrilled it to size and also weled a steel plate over the outside of it and drilled a hole thru that as well , i never had a problem since

also check your control arm bushings and u-joints , i would start there , if it was driving fine then started doing it , i doubt its an alignment or out of balance tire issue

Axle swap. 4 weeks of not aligning axle.....Death Wobble since day 5...I didn't align it. . Normally it takes longer then 6 weeks to poo a tire down......Nope.....It pwned my tire fast as hell. But I was working 20 hour days for 4 weeks straight so wasn't able to address it.
