Unhappy Daytime running lights

Hi, there. first-time poster.... I have a 97 XJ country. When I start it up, sometimes the daytimers come on right away, which I know they shouldn't and then when I shut the engine off, sometimes the headlights stay on... Is this a switch issue or another type of issue? I also have a parasitic draw coming from somewhere. Could the two issues be related?

When I had a broken multi-function switch my headlights would stay on after turning the engine off

Place a test light between battery terminal and cable end and pull main fuses one by one to see which circuit its coming from, then the small inner fuses

Headlight switch has individual small fuses for each function, and I think a large one in the engine bay

Check the circuit diagram

I would also pull the fuse or wire for the DRL module early in the piece and see if the test light goes out

Do the headlights eventually turn off (like 30-45 seconds)? There is a "sentinel" feature that keeps the headlights on to provide light when it's dark outside with no other light source available. To activate it, you have the lights on, then turn the key to off (shutting down), then turn off the lights. The headlights will stay on and eventually turn off. This shouldn't affect your DRL.

With everything off, how big is the parasitic draw?

Great question and comment, but no. I usually have to disconnect the battery when this happens. As for the parasitic draw, sometimes it drains the batter overnight, other times it takes a couple of weeks... I know this because I work out of town on a 2-2 rotation and came home, she barely fired up, but she still started.
