Lmao at the Kia Rio. Wow
Yup it's a federal requirement to include that on new vehicles, but not actually part of the Ontario safety spec. If a mechanic here makes noise about then he's going beyond the official inspection criteria. The HTA doesn't mention them at all, save for maybe you could interpret "factory installed safety equipment must be present" as including DRLs. Similar to the spec says two red brake lights but the Center High Mounted Brake Light on the hatch is "factory safety equipment". But as long as you have lights on when you should no cop is going to care. MTO sure doesn't
I'm not sure if any other provinces look for it.

Interestingly my XJ passed its safety inspection when I bought it without them working, I guess the mechanic was more worried about the holes in the floor rather than the lights!

Old thread, i know.....But search works
anyway, it's said the vehicle has to move for the drl to come on. Is this true or...?? I ask cuz i just installed the Truck Lite's and parked I have no drl (tho i did put it into gear). I took out the Rampage H4 swap (w/Putco) and DRL never worked with that setup, wondering if maybe i pooched the module??
thanx

update...post-trucklite install/oem wiring
had a chance to take 'er for a rip, no drl. headlights work normally thru the switch. so...i'm thinking the drl module has taken a dump?? i know when i was first running the putco setup they would flicker, any chance that might have sent it off the deep-end??
thanx

Doubt it. DRL runs at reduced voltage, TruckLites probably just aren't coming on that low. The flickering is because Putco relays are literally flapping internally as the voltage is insufficient to turn them on all the way.

thanx salad.
ya i knew the putco/H4 issue was voltage related, not tossing out a full 12v to light up the highs...but the LEDs aren't supposed to have any issues (or so i was told), which made me think the module

Well you could try probing the pins on it. To be honest I've never heard of a DRL module going out. But maybe that's because nobody cares! I killed my DRLs and just turn my lights on.
LEDs tend to not do much at all when the voltage supplied is very low.

I ADDED DRL's to my XJ. I use a DRL module that I got from Daniel Stern. It makes my parking lamps into DRL's. When my headlights are off, my forward-facing parking lamps are on--not at the normal parking light brightness, but the brightness that is used when flashing--very visible and impossible to be confused with having your headlights on. Amber DRL's are regarded by many as a superior way of doing DRL these days for a number of reasons anyway.
