Default Day 1: trim restoration with HEAT

Well I was skeptical but it really works! a $10 heat gun from Harbor Freight and some patience is all you need to get that trim looking new! I also had a few cans of PBR sitting around but that is optional

I'm sure it will fade again, but it beats masking and painting or using dye. it was actually a ton of fun to do... check it out:

nice. i'd put some aerospace protectant on it that will help keep it from fading as quickly

It does look very nice. I've seen this discussed many times and I think the heating draws essential oils to the surface after the weather has depleted these oils from the surface of the trim.

I read it can only be done once or twice with success. Every thread seems to wind up saying that Fusion paint (or similar) is the only long term fix for this.

I have a coupon for the heat gun you're using and thought I would give it a try as well in the spring.

Duplicolor vinyl paint for interiors actually works very well. i have used it on a whole interior on a s10 blazer, some door panels and even sunvisors on another truck. It sticks very well to a clean surface and doesnt need a promoter to make it stick. also any grains in the material sparyed will show thru fine. I did some carpet on a floormat just to try cause they said u could paint carpet. It held up great, the carpet was a little stiff at first but nobody even noticed
