hey yall need to listen to 5-90 he knows so much about electrical its crazy, he can go on for days and has lol ( hows the cleaning kits anyways). if there was one person on here i would ask about any elec stuff like that it would be him hands down!
And the kits are just ducky - I put one on my MOLLE gear, one in my range box, and I keep one in my truck (along with the M9 bayo, the Mk3 Mod0 dive knife, ...) I've made a few small additions, and talked to Otis about a few things, which gives me more room for expansion if I need it!

Do you want a cookie? Almost everything youve stated has been incorrect
Had to look at mine this morning, thats what those are for huh
Every automotive battery uses lead/acid chemistry, the only variation is the state of the acid: loose liquid, absorbed into a glass mat (AGM, like Optima) or gel cell (like Odyssey.)
Therefore, anytime a battery is to be mounted in the pax cabin, it must be in a box vented to the outside, as all lead-acid batteries (regardless of state) will outgas when they're charged. Ever notice those little vents atop the Optima?

The lead-acid electrolysis reaction is reversible (goes one way and you get current out. Put current in, and it reverses,) which is why batteries can be recharged. Not just lead-acid cells, any rechargeable battery.
Yeah, there's some loss - which is why the charge/discharge life is still limited. It's getting better, but there's still a finite number of cycles involved.
But, doesn't matter what the battery chemistry is (or what physical state,) there's still some outgassing that's going to happen on recharge. Check your little rechargeables - AA, AAA, C, D - even those will have vents on the end (usually the negative terminal end,) and for the exact same reason. They're just not big enough for the outgassing to be a potential problem.
