Default Date code

My new block, 4.0, shows a date code i dont understand. It is : 5Mx30. Does this mean its a '95 or from month 5 (may) and the year was never printed? There are no signs of wear to the surface

If this is the original engine in your XJ (92), I would suspect that it was built May 30th (92?). Normally the month code would be two digits, like 05, but because since there is no month 15, I would be happy in thinking it's May.

It's not from my original XJ. I bought it from a guy who got it from a friend who had wrecked or something...

ok, so I looked at som pictures online. It appears it has a 87-90 head(based on the exhaust ports). Are there any major diffrences in the internal parts? Like pistons and cam during those years or can I just go ahead and get parts for a '90XJ.
