About the ABS I am not sure what would happen. My other vehicle never had a ABS issue during the 5 years I had it, but a friend of mine had an ABS issue and it basically just stopped working. There was no noise or anything. Just the light was on and wheels would lock up under heavy breaking. Since its now summer and lots of traction on road I don't really want to do the heavy breaking at speed test (ABS shouldn't work below 30kph or so). I guess I will try to find some slipper surface like a gravel road to try it out.
About the blinking I will check once more in a few hours. I did not wait long, just wanted it to light up to check the bulb and then I shut off the ignition after a couple of seconds.
I guess I will have to take the dashboard apart anyway because I just found out there should be a part time yellow light on the dash which should light up when you switch to part time.

Generally the part timE light issue is a problem with the switch on the tcase. It is on the drivers side and has a pigtail going to it. First unhook the pigtail and put a jumper in the side coming from the vehicle. When you have the two wires connected and turn our key on the part time light should go on. If it does unscrew the switch in the tcase and try cleaning it. If it doesnt turn on the light is bad.

Thanks about the tcase tip. I will check it out if its easier to get to those wires compared to taking the dashboard apart
From what I have read so far the whole plastic dash has to be unscrewed and disconnected to get to the lights (no easy access to just the lights). Will now read about the tcase and gearbox wiring access. I think I will need to take the plastic trip and the carpet to get there.
If some lights are burned out I will get the quality ones from Osram or Panasonic or maybe even find some LED ones. Considering its a pain to replace I would not save some cents and get cheap Chinese ones only to have to take it apart again when they burn out. Thanks about the codes, I am downloading a manual for a 1993 Cherokee and I think it should be pretty much identical to a 1992, hopefully I will find the codes there too.
