i had this problem when i first got my jeep. has a 10 inch lift with 35's. i took it to a local shop and had them align it (over an inch out of alignment!) and tighten up my front end suspension. Since then, about 2 weeks ago, i havent had anything horrifying.

Ok, I have a '92 cherokee 4x4 I bought used two years ago. It started the wobble thing right after I bought it, but it was hardley ever used, so I didn't think much of it. Now my '90 cherokee is getting an overhaul, so I'm driving the '92 alot. Need 2 fix the wobble. It's bad, but only happens around 50 mph when I hit any kind of bump, and stops if I let off the gas. Everything on the jeep is stock, including the rims. 198,986 on the odometer.

but seriously, every time this comes up, someone has to point out the stabilizer isn't needed. it is a part of the steering components installed by the manufacturer.

it is in everyone's best interest to use one, as it can reduce the chances of a serious crash that may result if one wasn't in place.

it does a job.
Seriously, the steering stabilizer is a manufacturers band-aid. If your drag link and track bar are parallel there should be no bumpsteer whatsoever, it's just hard to get them perfectly parallel so most people run a steering stabilizer.

I run one, I'm not saying it's a dumb idea to run one. I'm just saying if your steering angles are perfect you shouldn't have to run one.

So I took mine in for an alignment. It was all f'd up. While they were at it, they noticed I cracked my sway bar link. I got two new links and new bushings all around. That seems to have done the trick, no more DW.

Now, the only thing is something pops when I turn left. Is this possibly my steering box? Speed isn't a factor, nor is if I go to the stop point.

cmor, it's most likely your track bar bolt at the axle end. tighten it and if it still pops, you may need a new bushing. and just to be sure, check the frame mount bolts.

offroadnut, i'm not gonna argue with you.

I had the same problem in my 96 XJ. It had a terrible wobble starting right at 50-55 MPH. I got the tires/wheels balanced and it went away. All good till a week later the wobble came back even worse. I took it back to the same shop that balanced them before and it turns out they put the wrong size weights on the wheels and they were sliding back and forth on the rim. Just be extra sure the shop you take it to does the job right the first time.

These things are a pain in the butt. What you got to do is grab the two little tabs that stick out of the back of the connection with a pair of pliers. Squeeze the tabs together while at the same time pulling on the other side of the connection. This may take awhile and several attempts, but be patent because it eventually will give way. It may also take a some jerking motion to get the thing to come apart. To get it back on you got to hold those tabs in again with pliers and really shove it on there till you know it is secure.

Default death wobble

I've been reading this thread and want to point out that the death wobble is so violent you can't drive with it, its not just a little annoying shake

Yeah when mine started to wobble the second time I thought I was going to die it shook so bad. I could hardly hold onto the steering wheel. I thought I lost a tire. Not saying it's always going to be unbalanced tires, but it's the first thing I would check (cheap/ish).
