I figured out today thanks to the help of another thread that my rear diff is dana 35. However I am having trouble figuring out the front. It does not look like any of the sample pictures on the identification chart.

It looks a lot like the d35 but it has kind of a square-ish indent where the check/fill plug is.

Most likely suspect?

Is the difference between high and low pinion in the way the diffs are geared?

high pinion - reverse cut
low pinion - standard cut
both are 27 spline.

the big difference is the output angle...I don't know if I'm using the correct terminology, but the low pinion's out put is just like it sounds, lower towards the bottom of the differential. This causes increased driveline angles. The highpinions out put is up higher, so the driveshaft angle is reduced.

Low pinions have more problems with vibrations when they are lifted because of higher angles.

if you haven't found this part of the forum yet, read it and figure out all the stuff your jeep has:

No problem.
Have fun on the forum.
Start an introduction thread and throw a pic of your jeep up there. A bunch of the main guys on here will say hello and you'll get a bunch of complements on your jeep, even if its bone stock or beat to crap. Also the introduction is a good way to see some of the who's who of CF.
If you spend much time on here, become a supporter. its $25 and you'll feel cooler. plus ya get stickers and a cool thing below your name like mine!! Oh and you'll be supporting the forum and all that.

I don't see why anyone would have a problem with a helpful link.
