Question Dana 30 Pinion Seal & Axle Seal

I did a search but didn't find anything yet, so if this is a repost please point me to the right thread.

I am wondering how hard is it going to be to replace the pinion seal and the axle seals on a Dana 30. Mine are starting to go and I do not want to torch another axle this year.

Is this something I can do easily in my drive or am I better off taking it to my mechanic?

Pinion seal is easy a long as you remember to retorque the pinion nut. I'd suggest repalcing it since it's supposed to be a one use only nut. The inner axle seals require removal of the carrier, some folks are very intimidated by the mere thought of doing that. Just remember to put the bearing caps on in the correct position and orientation.

For those that don't want to hassle with yanking the carrier, look into aftermarket seals that install in the ends of the tubes, like these...
