in over your head?
the ring gear is bolted to the carrier. The spider gears are also in the carrier. The carrier is held in the diff by 2 bearing caps, remove both bolts on each cap, don't mix up the caps, they need to be reinstalled in the same side and in the orientation that they came out. The carrier will not drop out, it may take some tugging and/or prying. Once the carrier is out, the pinion gear and bearing can come out. This might slide out, or need some taps. The bearing will have to be pressed off the pinion gear. Don't forget to knock the pinion bearing race out from the housing, and replace it too.

Idk guys. Getting the preload in specs in in./lbs. might be doable, but setting the gear lash is usually left for the shop.

Yes the pinion yoke will be able to rotate a little bit before the pinion touches the drive or coast side of the ring gear. This applies to both front and rear axles.

If you're rear yoke doesn't budge you've probably got the tranny in park. Chock the wheels and put it in neutral.
