Hello, I have a '87 Cherokee and I'm installing axle seals in front. I have everything appart but cannot pull carriage out. I tried prying it from the back with a hammer "handle" but didnt even budge. I read on annother forum about a housing spreader? What's holding this in there so tight?

Yea, everything is out of the way and actually looks good. Everything came appart nice till I got to this stage. I looked up a breakdown pic of the axle to make sure. should fall right out. bearings spin freely as well as spider gears and ring and pinion. just wont pull out.

I won't get a chance to work on it till this weekend, I have gotten a few suggestions from wrenchers on what they have done when they come across a sticky one. From simply changing weight on housing by use of a floor jack to using a housing speader to sacrificing wheel bearings with slide hammer. To me, the races just seem like they are seated really tight.

UPDATE!, Found me a 2' prybar and carriage came right out without much effort. Had a little trouble finding the oil seal for passenger-side of axle but found it at NAPA. This was a difficult seal to put in. First attempt was a fail. but got it the second time around. THANKS to everyone that sent advice my way.
