Default Dana 30 Front Pinion Seal - 2000 XJ Classic

Need to replace this seal. Leaking pretty good. Anyone know the size of the pinion nut? Also, whats the correct procedure? Ive read to just mark the nut and count the turns when backing it out, then reverse when replacing. Is there a specifac torque spec?

Any advise would be great, thanks.

the HPD30 doesn't use a crush sleeve so you can just impact it off and back on. I grabbed a Timkin one from Autozone and just went to town. You'll loose a little oil if you try and do it with the axle full but I just topped mine back up. If you have a seal puller it saves a lot of headache and possible damage to the outer seat. If you don't have a puller, get one, or cut a small hole in the existing seal so you can pry it out with a screw driver. I used a small pneumatic cut off wheel and made a small slit. Pops right out.

Just use an impact gun on the nut. I want to say it's a 27mm or something close to that. Popped my old seal out with a screwdriver. It's an easy fix to do.

So no crush sleeve in that pinion? I dont need to worry about bearing preload?

Yeah seems pretty easy, just wasnt sure what size the nut was. Watched my buddy do it to the same jeep about 4 years ago, just couldnt remember...
