How strong is a rear XJ D44? What size tires should the average offroader be able to handle with a heavy foot and this axle?

i've been pounding the chit outta mine for years, and it's locked.

oh, i'm on 36's with beadlocks, and stock gearing too.

not a worry in my mind about breaking it either. stock shafts also.

i twisted the splines on both of my stock shafts and bent the drivers side shaft....and I drive like an old woman. Sometimes it's the luck of draw.
Heavy right foot - invest in alloy shafts.

stock shafts would be the weak point. with a heavy foot I would keep it to a 33, carry spare shafts and i wouldn't hesitate to run 35's.
