Quote: Yes i believe 410 was a factory option for xj's, maybe with tow package? I think the 4cyl cherokees came with 4.56...Mine does have 410s, but i am going 4.56 since i have 33's.
All 4 cyl XJs had 4:10 gearing. Not 4:56

Look for a 97-99 Dana 30 from a 4 cyl XJ if you decide to do a 8.8 swap that has 4:10s.

You should use the LSD until you have no more to use. May be several years. Do not weld a diff that is going to be used on the street or you will be then buying tires every 6 months.

I forgot to add that i live in a junk yard that the father in law owns so tires are very plentiful. But 8.25 arent.

My 8.25 is welded and I run it at 80mph down the freeway. If I am not driving it to the trail I am flat fowing it, and it gets drug down the road even faster then. I also drive it around town on the weekends and to work a good bit. I have never had a welded carrier fail.

with the 8.25 is there any way to tell if you have the 27 or 29 spline axles without taking to dif cover off?

I believe the 97+ axles have 29 spline.
