Smile D35 movement & clunk - vid inside

Chaps,
I've a bit of a clunk from the rear of my XJ (1995 4.0 running stock D35). I've had the clunk for about a year now but since a lift and tyre upgrade I think it's a wee bit louder.

I got the Jeep on a ramp and I pulled the wheel & drum to have a look. I have a bit of movement:

Please disregard the 'comedian' in the background

I assume this isn't normal? What needs done to fix this?

I would expect a little movement with a clip design but I'm sure that there should be this much slop (at a guess it's about .75mm)

Well now that I stopped laughing my *** off, I can reply.

A little bit of play is normal, but you may have a bit of a worn bearing. I am not sure how much play you should have though.

I'm not familiar with the D35 but I assume it is similar to the C 8.25 in design...

To venture a guess I would say either the spiders and or carrier are worn or someone forgot the thrust washers when reinstalling the spiders.

Do both sides to it or just the one side? A little play is normal but too much might indicate an issue. Might be best to pull the cover and have a look see.

Both sides do it. Drivers side (in video) does it slightly more than passengers side.

There's no up down or side to side movement but some in & out is as per video.

x2 on worn thrustwashers or carrier.

No I've no grinding or crunching from the diff. Just an occasional knock over pot holes and rough bumps.
