Maybe you'll believe this. Read the factory parts paragraph. I explained why I believe my point of view is correct, and what NOBODY, to this point has said, is WHAT turns the front drive shaft, when in 2WD and you have a functioning DISCO system, and an open front diff.....you cant. So keep spreading disinformation, I'll move to another forum.

that link has nothing to do with weather or not the front driveshaft spins while driving around... try it already... get in your jeep... open the dang door... lean way down... and GRAB THE DANG DRIVESHAFT... i bet you cant hang on

TR1HEMI......i understand that you are saying that because the disco axle has a open diff when you disconnect the wheel then the power goes to the disconnected axle, because their is no resistance. If we are talking theory, then I think you would be right. Why would the driveshaft turn if you disco the axle and turn the wheel, the other disco'ed axle shaft should turn the opposite way and the driveshaft should remain stationary. That makes sense, but I don't think it works that way in real life. Mine turns, all the time. Its not a disco though. If winston says it turns, I'd put money on it it does.

Do it. See what happens. IF yours doesn't turn post a video.

100% RIGHT here, If there were locking hubs on it and you had them unlocked and in 2wd the DS would not spin but just lock one hub and it will...Tj

wouldn't an easier and safer test be to reach under while parked the truck in 2wd and spin the drive shaft? you should be able to spin the shaft with the truck parked, with the cad disengaged an open diff and the t-case in 2wd if truly completely disengages 4wd

I went to test mine as it should have the disco- but its a used truck/wheeler and has a newer non disco front axle so there I'm no help.

i think its funny that you have 30 people on this site telling you that your WRONG... and NOBODY saying that your right... the only reason im even arguing this issue is that its false information on this site... and that i dont like... again... that thread has nothing to do with this... show me where it says when driving around in any shape or form that the front driveshaft does not spin... have someone get in your jeep... stick it in drive... you lay under it... and watch your driveshaft... i bet money it will spin no matter what you do... just make sure its someone trustworthy behind the brake... im for real... go do this... then come back and tell us your sorry you were wrong...

this whole topic got me searching..... they stopped making the disco d-30 around 91. even then not all xj's had the disco front, depending on what T-case you have. the Np231 or the 242. if you have the 242 (part time 4wd) you shouldn't have a disco front end like my 89.

That being said I guess I'm not understanding. If you 100% have the vac disco d-30, and the T-case in 2wd is disengaged and you have an open diff and everyone is saying that the drive line still spins (not just from friction in the system) what is spinning it. In theory the diff would spin with the one wheel but sense the other shaft is disconnected the diff action should hold the R/P still, other then the drag on the system.

Driver side wheel is never disconnected from the diff and the rest of the system... disco only disconnects the right side...

right, but wouldn't the differential action keep the r/p from turning? other then friction.

uhh... i dont know if its because of friction or what... i just know that it grabs and does turn the driveshaft...

any differential that has turning wheels will have a rotating driveshaft unless it has lockout hubs.

I think trekker settled it. If all you had to do was disco on side then the big 4x4's would only have one hub to unlock. You have to unlock them both.
