Default Cylinder Compression

Hi folks - 2000 XJ with 174K miles. I measured the compression and it ranged from 140 to 180. The FSM says 120-150. Could there be something wrong with the gauge? I did not get the engine up the temperature before the measurement. Could that be the reason for the high values?
Thanks.

Engine warmed up, throttle wide open, at least 3 "puffs" per cylinder.
