So, I got a "new" 98 a bit back...
4.0,
4WD,
Sport.
I decide to do the brakes as they were questionable at best. Just changed them all the way around, drums and disks {the metal part} also.
My issue, the front passenger side has a lot of play in the shaft. The u joint {cv} joint looks fine, with no play, but where it inserts into the axle, it can go up, down, left, or right, about a quarter inch.
I'm not a front end specialist, so,
1.} Is there a bearing around these that might be changed?
2.} If I change the whole shaft, is a grand-cherokee awd cv joint ok? The actual cherokee one is 300$ from the AZ.
3.} How much of a hassle is it to break those bolts free? The 3 that hold the hub on. I see that they're 12 point.
4.} Do I have to do both sides at the same time? Or is this something that can be done only on 1 side witout issues?
5.} How long can I drive it like this? Is it only an issue that screws up my 4wheeling? Can I wait till it's nicer outside to replace it, or is it unsafe?
Thx for the input.
