New to the forum and have said hello in the intro area, im just going through some routine checkups on my cherokee as its a new purchase and i saw that i have a number of cut vac lines on the fuel rail and the manifold, i dont know cherokee's well at the moment and i was wondering what's what, (image belo)
so i my question what are these lines and what will they be effecting and how to i fix it (which lines connect to which)
If you look on the drivers side of the firewall you will likely find a diagram of the vacuum lines in your jeep. I recommend that you pick up the service manual or a haynes manual for your Jeep cus you will find it handy as you go through your new jeep trying to fix things and check stuff.
Thanks Crazy 8's, i have managed to pick up a haynes today! lucky find in a thrift store, also found the vac line layout by the drivers side, thank you very much
So i picked up some vacuum line from the auto parts store and re connected the pipework as per these diagrams, the car starts and runs fine and drives fine, the only thing i would say is different is it idles slightly lower than before, is there something i need to reset? ECU? etc? or should it just 'work'
It should idle about 700 rpm. I don't believe that you need to reset the ECU for fixing the hoses. If it idles smoothly at the low rpm then it should be fine.
You might find it useful to watch this video because you are working with a new-to-you Jeep that you may not know the full history on.
Really useful thank you, ive done all the fluids before the trip but not done any greasing, and due for a tuneup but wanted to check why there are disconnected hoses etc first, its idling smooth so thats good,
i took it to a trusted shop for a check over and they were impresses, i know the suspension needs changing too, saying that they missed the disconnected vac lines!! but i guess they were hidden away
Love the ownership of this vehicle hoping to have it for my entire stay in canada
...and welcome to the Jeep club! There is something addicting about these things that keeps the pockets empty... There is always something you'll need and want to do to it!
