im installing a custom bumper on my jeep right now. does this affect if the air bag will go off or not? or will the speed that it deploys at need to be greater?

I have had this discussion with the boys @ chrysler's tech line. No one will commit to an answer-liability issues. My thoughts are that it may take a little bit more of an impact to deploy the bags, but ?? Maybe less?? as the force of the impact will be more directly transfered to the acm???
I hope I never find out!

 

Bumpers have affect on airbag deployment. That is handled by the Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) system.
