I have seen several threads where people swap out the centerl console for a newer model one. THere are a couple of small issue but nothing seems to hard to overcome. Search here or NAXJA i seen them on one of the sites.

I made my own cup holders this past weekend. With only a mini console there was just floor and parking brake between the seats. I really dont need a center console as it would just fill up with crap. Part of my design for the cup holders also included a place to mount my CB. I wasnt real happy with the normal places to mount it. The cup holders can hold 2 44oz cups and WILL NOT spill with the CB mounted on the side basically right at my hip. Out of the way but within easy reach. I know.. ...I am doing a slight redesign and will take some when I have it completed/painted.

I am thinking about making some from aluminum that mount to my door panel...

x2 on those crappy quadratec cupholders. I've got them and they dont hold anything worth a crap. Plus if a drink sweats in the cupholder the water takes forever to evaporate for some reason. I installed some moisture absorbant coasteer type things in the cupholders and now it's even worse than before. I have to hold onto whaever is in there even during normal driving, much less wheeling! It's gotten to the point where I just crotch my when wheeling, forget those crappy cupholders!

i agree that i like this one better because its deeper and holds better. the only thing i dont like about it is if the trim the lip goes under gets loose, that cup holder falls out easily.

What I had going on for awhile was a piece of PVC, a 2 to 3.5 inch expander. It stuck in the old cupholder and made the top wider.
