I can see where a "gorilla hands" might have a problem with the e-brake but mines working fine.
I had one of the factory type. As I said it didn't last a month before some "wide legs" broke it. LUCKILY my console didn't crack.
None available are perfect but this one beats a blank. So far.

Me neither. And the one on the side didn't like to just stay clipped in. The weight of a drink made it want to just fall right off. A little epoxy did the trick. Not the cleanest thing but it does the job

Same, TSS.
5'5" and 115, and I broke mine.
Broke the plastic off around one of the screws today while engaging my e-brake.
I think I'm going to remove it.
It's useless for cups... Too shallow. Change is the only thing I use it for, but XJs have tons of other places I can keep my change, so...

Awright,two people shorter than me!
I never said the thing was perfect, guys. I just keep a cup in it that fits(it's an insulated one)and put what I'm drinking in it. If a holder I think is better comes along I'll give it a try.
As far as the e-brake goes, unless your talking about catching the holder with your hand or fingers,it doesn't have to come no where near the top of the holder slot to engage if you adjust it.

My '98 has cup holder built in the center console but they suck. If you put a tall cup or bottle in it the drink falls right over.
To solve this, I got a cardboard core from a roll of shrink wrap at work, cut it off at about 8 inches & shoved it in the cup holder recess.
Love it. Holds my coffee mug, 20 oz. bottles, & all kinds of cans.

I want a cup holder that works !!! rofl. Can that cup holder bottom be cut out to fit larger cups?
My next trip to the salvage yards will be looking at cup holders to adapt. Why so difficult? I've looked at those wedge between seat holders> Maybe.

I took an old tennis shoe, ran it through the washing machine and put it on the passenger seat in my 93. It holds pretty much any cup or bottle and doesn't move around at all.

Ummm, Think you just solved my problem with the old tennis shoe. I did NOT wash it. Coffee tasted grainy. Washed it, and so much better. less earthy taste.
Seriously though, You're right, a tennis shoe does make the best cup holder. No skid bottom. And if a small cup, I tie the shoelace.
