Cruise Control not working
Hello,
i'm Alessandro from Italy, i've a problem with my "new" 88' XJ 4.0 it's a car born for Canadian market, then exported to Italy so i think it's more equal to yours than eurtopeans..
My Cruise not working as a lot of this car, as i can read on the forum...i just find on your posts two good manuals to check the Cruise control system, but i find some differeces that create me some difficult:
I find and test the cruise control switches as write on manual, they was not working because some wires were broken but now they are new and every contact are working.
The vacuum seems good, and also the servo cable, but i'm in difficult to check the servo electrical contacts as in manuals because i can read only about a 4-ways connector but mine have 5 wires.
There isn't also any PCM on driverside fender near air-box, as i can read on manuals...
So can anyone help me?

I'm reading about PCM and now i've understand that i have in near my right knee under the dash, but i have to understand how check the servo, one of the manual talking about a blue wire with red tracer from main wiring but in my 5 wires i haven't noone like this, the only one where i can read 9 Volts when key is turned on and cruise control switch also, it's a wire light brown, then i found another one to ground.

When the cruise quit on my 90, it was the switch for the brake lights. It is located on the brake pedal. That's the only problem I've ever had with my CC.

But your brake/tail lights were working?
Mine are working and the brake light switch it's only one for both funcion on my model.
I already read every thread on CC problems and i don't find news, but i descover that the AMC yellow box under the dashboard it's the Cruise Control Brain, i saw it two days ago looking for wiring, and i saw also that it have 3 trimmers to adjust some setting, anyone know how it have to be tuned?
Maybe someone touched this trimming and make it not working...
Regards

No, when the switch quit, so did my brake lights. That was how I narrowed the problem down. Sorry it wasn't more help.

No it's really strange, because i checked that all the wires goes to the servo, goes also to the strange yellow box that today i discover is the pcm, same colors wires, as soon as possibile i'll try the continuity on the wires to be sure...
It's strange that no manual talking about a test on the servo with 5 wire ever 4 wire
