Default Cruise control not working...

Hi,

I just purchased a 2001 cherokee Xj sport (police package).

The cruise control light comes on, but when I hit “set” it doesn’t do anything.

I did a little research, and replaced the vacuum hose (it had snapped in half) and now it blows air out of the correct vents (not just the defrost) and also tested the vacuum line and it has suction. But the cruise control still does not work. Also, the rear brake lights work, and the horn works as well. Any suggestions as to where to look next?

I know very little about cars, lol.

If it is a manual there may (should) be a switch on the clutch assembly that disengages cruise when the pedal is pressed.
On other vehicles the brake switch will turn it off but most use the same switch for cruise and brake lights so if the brake lights are not on all the time this is probably not the issue though.

Someone will be along shortly to correct me if I am wrong and to give some more sound advice.
