Default Cruise Control Troubleshooting

I've for a 1998 with cruise issues. Light comes on just fine. But cannot set it. AC controls all work fine as they should. I've inspected all the vacuum lines but do not see any areas that it could be leaking from.

Any tricks to sourcing a potential vacuum leak?

What is the "bulb" looking thing that the vacuum line goes into behind the passenger side parking lamp?

Go here and look at post #51. It shows the engine bay vacuum system.

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/gre...e-6558/index4/

If you can get a brake bleeder hand pump from Harbor Freight you could vacuum leak check the system. Hooking it up at the rubber elbow at the intake manifold.

Thats an awesome thread on so many areas of potential concerns in the engine bay. Thanks for sharing. Bookmarked that page for future use. I have a vacuum pump for brake bleeding already, just have to figure an adapter to hook it up to the system.

Thanks. Dean

So I checked out all the vacuum lines from the manifold to the tank under the battery. All checked out fine. When I disconnected it, all the air in the reservoir came rushing out. Engine had been off for 30 minutes or so.

I pulled a vacuum on the cruise control module and it held just fine. I double checked all the connections / electrical and it's all hooked up good. Does this mean the cruise control module is dead? Is there any other testing I can check on the cruise control module?

Default 2000 cruise not working/a/c blowing out defroster

Cruise control suddenly stopped working, however, the cruise light was illuminated on the dash. Also, the A/C only blew out of the defroster. Found vacuum hose disconnected drivers side of the intake manifold. Put a mini clamp on it, reattached and everything is in working order. Simple fix.

I personally have been having problems with cruise for years. For a while there is was vacuum leak issue. But eventlually I got it all working and then it just quit working. Last night in doing research online I came across a website with a large about of information regarding testing and servicing the system. The website hasthis sort of information for almost the entire vehicle. I've been lookin for this info for years so I'm sharing a link with you guys now.

Hi folks. My CC works but when I set the speed for say 55, as soon as I hit SET, there's a small surge in speed and acceleration and spedo read about 57mph. Also if I'm past a set speed and I hit resume, CC makes the car speed up a little before it settles back on the set speed. Cant find troubleshooting steps for this specific issue. Thanks.

yes the light switch comes on, but does not work.
