Exclamation Cross Member Relocation??!!

K I have a problem!

The cross member for the 4.0L automatic tranny out of the '89 jeep is about four or five inches farther back than on my '85 jeep with the 2.5L manual tranny. The bolt holes on the front of the cross member will match up with the rear bolt holes on my '85 but does anybody know how I can attach the rear bolt holes on the cross member to my frame?

I'm ready to go together with it and this is holding me up.

Help? Please

Option #1 you are going to need to cut into the unibody frame to take out the nut inserts, move them to a suitable spot, weld in a piece of 3/16 flat and the nut insert to that. I may be wrong, so be warned, but that is what I have done in the past to unibody cars when reparing rust or doing tranny or engine swaps.
Option #2you should measure up your holes, and get a new x-member made
Option #3 weld a plate of 3/16 to the x member, fill in the original holes, then mark and weld. I think the third option would be your best bet.

Also, it mabye easiest to find a x member from a automatic of the same year, just a thought.

Could you be a little bit more specific about option #3?
And also are you meaning it may be easier to find a cross member from the same year jeep as my '85? Or are you meaning the same year as the '89 that I pulled the engine and auto tranny out of?

This is what I mean. you have a crossmember that would work, but the holes don't line up ehere you need them to on the x-member right? If so, cut and weld a piece of flat to the part of the crossmember that bolts to the unibody, mark your new holes, and drill them out so they work for you. install bolts, and you are done. What I ment about finding one was find one from a 85, or heck why not a 89 auto. not 100% if it will work or not, but just a idea
