creaky XJ
Hey all, I'm having some creaking and popping from the front of my jeep and i just cant seem to get rid of it. I have replaced:
Track bar, IRO Double Shear
Steering, IRO 1-Ton OTK
Wheel hubs, Timken
Brakes and lines
-Removed sway bar
-Axle u-joints good
-Front driveshaft off.
Okay so the only thing logically to be left is the steering box. I inspected the frame rail for cracks or bending when dry steering, and it looks solid. No obvious signs.
So my questions are where should i start as far as fixing goes? (new box? durango box? cracked frame? cracked bracket? anything else that im missing?

Can you be more specific as to when you hear these "creaks"?
If over a bump, for example - I would suspect lower control arms.
When steering back and forth, you could be on the right track as far as steering box goes.

hmmm. i haven't looked at the ball joints. Mine has 200k miles on it so i'm not suprised either lol
but yes when steering, especially when moving slowly (like a parking lot) it creaks and groans, and offroading a big pop once and a while. I'll further investigate and come back

You have the exact same problem as I do. I went out last night and rocked it back and forth by hand with no creaks. I have ball joints on the way and will get them in next week. I'll let you know if it fixes mine.
I like this post, one of us will figure it out.
