Crashed my new XJ
I was driving my Jeep down a dirt road at 15 mph when it spun out and hit a tree. Fortunately, hitting the tree saved my life by stopping the truck from falling off a small cliff into a stream. And I've only had the truck for two weeks and now I'm being told that it is totaled though it runs perfectly. It took me a month to find this specific Cherokee that had low miles and a manual transmission, so I don't think I will be able to buy one again.

My question to you guys is should I put the money into fixing the Jeep or should I just garbage it? I visited a local mechanic and he says he could probably try to fit a window into it though it would look ugly. I am reluctant to go through my insurance agency because my rates will raised ridiculously high, but I don't have the thousands of dollars needed for a good repair. What would you do if it was your car?

any major structural damage to a unibody will be considered totaled by the insurance company. since it has no separated frame, they consider your quarters and top as a part of the frame. they did that to my civic in 2003. it got t-boned in the rear. so i took the $10900 they gave me, bought it back for $2200, and hit a couple of junkyards and found one with a good rear quarter and bought the whole thing for $400. hacked up every part i needed and welded it on mine.
not as bad of a job as you think. it took me and a buddy about 4 months of here and there and we got it finished and took it to a paint shop and had it sprayed for $1000.
the easier way out for you is to find an XJ with a blown motor and swap your drivetrain over. or do what i did and find one with a front end wreck. they are dime a dozen.
but the easiest way out is to chop the top and weld up some diamond plated sheets for rear quarters. it will look like bad out of hell.

I've decided to get the rig fixed with only minimum work. All they are going to do is try to fit a window back on.

It doesn't look lifted, so how did you pull that off at 15 mph. Do you have a sway bay?? I would fix it, nice rig if it has low miles and manual trans. If they get a window to fit I would try to bang out the dents the best you can.

i would chop it or swap the driveline, the chop is pretty easy from what ive seen, and can look really nice if you take your time, alot of chops ive seen lately leave the back open but it would be very east to fit some sheet metal in there, i personally would throw a sheet of 1/8th in there for the back and cut a big ol hole in it and fit some plexiglass in the back for a window

I was turning a bend and going down a hill when I lost control. Everyone including the cops, my parents, mechanics and my friends don't believe me, besides my friend who was in the car.

i believe you man ive gotten a 20 ton truck to do donuts in the motor pool when it was a lil slick out, esp commin out of the bend if you hit the gas thats more than likely, also if it was a pretty hard curve
