Hi everybody, just have a question to pass by you before I make a decision which way to go.
Right now I have a 91 which needs alot of work before I can plate it, like mechanical inspection and repair the holes from the rust. It's been sitting for a couple of years and right now I still have to get the fuel up to the engine to see how it runs.
My other option is I can get a 93 from a guy and he is asking $1350, 222000 kms, a bunch of new parts have been put on in the last year including new BFG's, but he went and changed the oil and filter on a cold day and forgot to remove the oil filter ring from the mount before installing the new filter. He has always used Mobil 1 oil in it. After the change, his wife took it three blocks before the engine died. He said there was a sensor on it which sensed the pressure drop. He got it running again after fixing the leak, but now he says it has a noise from the bottom end like a main bearing. Everything else about the vehicle is good, it's just I need to hear it before I make a deal.
Now if I purchase it, how would a person go about changing the crankshaft and bearings with the engine still in the chassis? Has anyone else here done that? And it all depends on whether the rest of the engine is in good shape, ie: compression, gaskets, timing.
Anyone have any ideas?

Gotta pull the engine to change the crankshaft. It would be more cost effective to replace the whole engine with a good used engine or the one from your 91. I'm sure if the crank is damaged the cam and lifters may have suffered too.

I had a chance to go hear the 93 tonight, and despite all the parts the seller put into it, the motor definitely needs to be replaced. I could hear the noises from the bottom end, like a distinct yet subtle knocking, and the lifters were ticking loudly.
How hard are the motors to change? Still thinking about taking the engine from my 91 and swapping them.
