OK, this is the first time I've had to post about a not modified part, but I am just not sure how to go about this. It's not the same as a belt squeal. It really sounds like crickets chriping, but its gotten really loud. I've narrowed my belt/pulley squeal down to the crankshaft pulley. It has gotten worse and worse lately, doesn't change when I adjust the tension of the belt and goes away for about ten seconds at a time when the center of the pulley is sprayed with silicone or wd 40. Tried spraying with lithium grease for a more permanent fix, but that didn't help at all. At this point am I better of just getting the pulley off and replacing it? Is there a way to get the pulley off and repack the bearings? What all is included in removing and replacing the crankshaft pulley? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

No bearings in a crankshaft pully (harmonic balancer), they are less than 50.00 buy a new one. Some things are meant to be replaced that is one of them.Are you sure thats the bad one its the big one on the bottom.I'm asking a real question also.

 

Well now I feel like a dumba$$...after further research I actually found out that it doesn't have bearings in it before I even read your post. Thanks for the input. I read a little more about the crayon trick with the belt. i haven't done that in a few years. I was almost positive it wasn't the belt, but after putting a little crayon wax on the belt it went totally silent. Big relief...but once again feel like an idiot for having to post about that. I guess I learned my lesson about using cheap serp. belts.
