Default Crankshaft Pos. Sensor??

Got a 98 cherokee sport, inline 6, 4.0, and it keeps sputtering at around 45 to 50 mph, recently started doing at idle. It fells like it is running out of gas. Had it tested at autozone and the readings said it was the crankshaft pos. sen. does anybody know were it is on the jeep, and if there are any short term problems if i dont get it fixed? Thanks in advance.

11 o'clock position on the bellhousing. If it is the CPS it'll eventually go and you wont be able to start it.

This job can be a bear, you'll need quite a few extensions to get in and reach it. Carefull not to drop a bolt inside the bellhousing through the opening. Dropping the crossmember and lowering with a jack can give you more room to get in there.

Overland is right. The CPS is a pain to get to. You are going to need at least 20 inches of extension, plus a universal to get to the two bolts that hold the cps in. Figuring that out was the hardest part in getting the sensor changed.

yeah, it will just stop running one day, mine would be worse when it was hot out and I was going slow speed. Try replacing one on a v8 once, took me a damn hour to find it

Just did mine the other day. It's a pain but not to hard. I used ramps to raise the front and blocked the back tires.....didnt want to trust the e-brake all on its own.
