Okay, So I have a 89xj that recently decided not to start. It will crank to the cows come home but wont fire. I check spark, and I am not getting any. I have already replaced the ignition wires I bought a new coil my distributor is good. so here is where i'm stumped. I have power to my ignition module but from the coil to the distributor I have no spark. My friend said it my be my crank position sensor. Anyone have any ideas please throw them my way!
Thanks

It's more than likely either the Crankshaft Positioning Sensor (CPS) or Camshaft Positioning Sensor (aka pick-up coil or stator). To check and see if the CPS needs to be replaced, you need to measure the resistance. I'm not familiar with the Renis engines like you have, but for the HO engines, if there is any resistance on the CPS, it needs to be replaced. It could be different for a Renix, so I would look that up before you come to any conclusions. The testing process is similar though. You need to set a multimeter to measure resistance (ohms) and measure the resistance between terminals A and B as seen here. The resistance should be between 125-275 ohms. Here's some info about testing the CPS on a Renix engine http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...iagnostics.htm .

Here's a picture of the location of the CPS

As for the pickup coil, here's some information to read up on http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...lse_Stator.htm . You may find it easier to just get a new junkyard distributor than to buy a new pickup coil. Hope this info helps you out. Good luck with your Jeep.
