Crank Posistion Sensor?
Got my Jeep (98 Cherokee Classic) out of storage Saturday. It was up to temp as I let it sit idle for a good 10 minutes while I filled the tires with the 12V pump.
We get about 10 minutes from storage and it dies. Wait 5 minutes, start it up and it goes about 100 feet before dying again. I have had it die when over heating before. Temped was right at the 200 mark so I don't think that was the case. It did act up a little towards end of last year where it would randomly die, but start back up a minute later.
Saturday it wouldn't start back up and it was a good 85 degrees out. I had it towed home and still no start. I checked in the morning and it fired up no problem. Did some googling and symptoms showed like the Crank Position Sensor. Went to Napa and changed it out yesterday. Let it warm up, drove around the block a couple times. Shut it off, restarted a couple times and it seems fine. Drove around town a little, ran up to 65 mph, ran the AC....didn't die. It did stumble a little a few times but didn't die. I attribute that to the old gas in the tank from sitting all winter. After changing the sensor it seems to start up faster than ever though. used to need to crank a few times and slow to fire. Now it's instant if that is any indication.
Can I check the resistance on the sensor if it is out of the car to determine if that was infact the problem? I will be towing my camper about an hour to a music fest this weekend and don't want it to crap out on me on the way there. Last year it died on my way home, but that I was in traffic and super hot and it was reaching over heat temps. Sat for 30 mins in the middle of a main road pissing people off and it started back up and I made it home.
No check engine light, could there still be codes listed?
Next question would be how much longer should I go before changing the fuel pump? Not sure if it is original or not. I have 174K miles on it. I've owned for 3-4 years now. Put maybe 8K miles on it.
Appreciate any help.
