Default Crank NO START When Motor Warm/Hot .... CPS????

Ok i believe I am on the right part but need a little more information.

Drive the 1995 XJ 5 miles or so, park it and it will NOT RESTART.

Let it sit until bone cold and it starts.

Has not stalled at all while driving.

DONE SO FAR -----

Changed ignition coil during NO RESTART period and still no restart.

UP NEXT -----

Thinking the CPS might be the culprit. Last time I had a CPS go bad it would randomly stall but restart.

Since the symptoms are different I am asking if there is anything else I should look at ??????

THANKS

When it's DOA what's missing fuel or spark?

Checked for spark out of the coil and NOTHING ......

However when DOA I could smell fuel from cranking it!

So ...... it seems to be missing spark.

Any codes, do you have access to a scanner that can capture live data?

Ok so it's not the 98Gc in your sig, gotcha. Ignition coils last forever and usually when a CPS fails it's for good. Fuel smell may still be present with a defective pump.
Whats the condition of the wiring, have you checked the bulkhead connector for green goo?

Everything looks good.

When the CPS failed on this 1995 XJ years ago it did not fail and stay failed.

It would at random times just stall .... and restart immediately.

At that time I replaced CPS and it has been fine since.

On a 1996 XJ I owned it stalled and stayed in that state .... crank, no start .... no spark. It was the coil.

Default Codes codes codes .........

Engine is COLD

Codes I saw were .....

1 2 Battery disconnected

5 4 <---- odd one because notes I read indicate this is for a TURBO engine only

5 5 END OF TEST

Could be CPS, could be coil

You can check resistance and compare cold good vs hot bad on both of them

If both test good look elsewhere

Well it is showing a 5 - 4 Code which indicates a fault related to CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

Camshaft Sensor is inside the distributor.

Ignition Coil has been ruled out by testing with a new coil.

I should add that on October 1 a new distributor was installed by a service center due to distributor breaking when passenger side motor mount bolts were broken in an accident.

The distributor and pickup sensor are most likely under warranty so I will contact the installing service center about that.
