Default Cracked head 2000 Cherokee block questions

I recently bought a 2000 Cherokee for $600 because it had a cracked head. Its in great shape and the floors are still there!!! The head leaked coolant into the block. It still starts up and runs but rough. It has been sitting for about 2 months with the milkshake in the block. I have a local guy with an 0630 head for $60 that has been magnafluxed and didn't need milled. It will not be a DD but would you spend $200 to get it back up and running with that block? I have been trying to find a good used 4.0 but everyone wants more than I paid for the jeep for a motor with 200k to 300k on it.

Thanks for the help
Justin

Your are into the Jeep cheap enough. Pull the whole engine and rebuild/replace everything, top to bottom. Get a brand new replacement aftermarket head for 00-01 models specifically.

If you are unwilling or unable to do this, sell it for what you paid for it before spending another dime.

Should I pull the oil pan and check the rod bearings and see if there is any rust or anything in the block? It still has good oil pressure.

I do not want to rebuild this engine. The plan for this jeep in the next year is to swap a TDI into it.

Well then, write us back next year and tell us how the TDI swap went.

Until then, the Jeep sleeps.

0630 heads do not match up to the newer intake manifold without an adapter plate. You should put down a 0331 TUPY head or a new casting from Clearwater. If you wanted to be cheap any uncracked 0331 that's flat will do. Head gasket, exhaust manifold gasket are about $50. Head bolts are recommended. Change the oil a few times after the work to get the coolant all out.

Well I got the head off and and the number 2 and number 3 piston had scored the cylinder wall. I am pulling everything out and I selling everything off. I am going to go to town on fixing some thing and painting it while I am waiting for parts and money to do the TDI swap.
