Cracked Flex Plate
So I decided to take my jeep to the shop so they could confirm that I have a cracked flex plate and not something more serious.. The tech comes back and says it is definitely cracked, and that's the only problem he can see.
Anyone want to take a guess at how much they quoted me for a fix??? $590 dollars not including the part!! To drop the transmission (at a transmission shop) and replace the flex plate with a part that I had to provide.. How does anyone afford to take their vehicle to a shop these days??? The only reason I can't do it at home is because I live in an apartment complex and if they hear a wrench turn they contact the apt. manager and she threatens to kick you out.
Sorry for my little rant but damn!! I just picked up a 99 4.0 with 70k on it for a buddy of mine and spent less than what they quoted me to replace a flex plate

That's about right to drop the tranny to do anything really, I hate to say. Those shops sure do know how to make their money! You can always take it somewhere else for a different quote if you aren't happy with it

I've been there and done that. It's not a very challenging job to handle yourself though. Assuming that you are pretty mechanically inclined. I paid $115 for a new plate at the stealership and $100 on a harbor freight trans jack and was finished in about a day. Obviously you will need to pick up fluid etc... G/L

Hey man , do it at night so your not so noticed at your apt. That is way to much to pay for them to split your motor and trans. You could slap all new parts on there by yourself for less.....
