Hey everybody, got something to pass by you. I have my 1991 XJ 5 speed, which I still need to repair the body and inspect the mechanicals in order to get it certified to register. Now I have also come across a 88 XJ Laredo with a bunch of more options on it compared to mine for $300. Has more miles, a lot more bodywork needed to make it look good again, and it needs a front driveshaft. The biggest thing it has going for it is I can register it without getting it inspected, which is what I have to do with the 91.
Now, how reliable are the Renix electrical systems {Yes, I have been going thru the search feature on this forum, and have seen what everyone has posted} when compared to the Mopar systems? Can they be interchanged? Wiring harnesses and all? The 88 has features like full gauges, sunroof, half-decent leather interior, cruise, etc. Would something like the gauge cluster interchange with little or no grief involved?
That is only some of what I am thinking of. Anyone got any ideas? It would be greatly appreciated!
Let the comments flow!!!!

gauge clusters are different, '91 on up uses electronic gauges while the previous years used a cable drive speedometer

Nothing wrong with a renix, they're just as reliable as any other cherokee.

X2. Renix ignition systems are actually pretty bullet-proof. They're certainly no less reliable than the Chrysler ignition system that replaced it in '91.
