My valve cover is definitely leaking. Are the Fel-Pro cork gaskets good? Do they need to be cemented or require special installation? The rubber ones are 6 times the price and around $30-40. If they are better, where can I find them cheaper?

 

The Fel pro gaskets rubber are much better than the cork. They are firm rubber bonded to a metal rim they dont mush out as easy.they also have alignment holes that fit over the headbolts with little tabs on them keeps the gasket from shifting while tightening. I cant remember if it was part of the kit but there are small plastic spacers that snap into the valve cover bolt holes that keep you from overmashing the valve cover bolts. They do not get siliconed or cemented into place, i think its pretty difficult to get a good steady bead around the whole head and that probably causes leakage...i dont think i ever had a jeep that didnt leak somewhat....if its not leaking, Your out of oil

 

Spend the money. Buy the Permadry. You can easily overtighten the cork and crush it, making it leak. You'll go mad trying to get the cork to remain in place while you position the cover or make a mess using silicone to "glue" it in place. If you ever have to remove the valve cover, you'll need a new gasket and repeat the whole process.

I wouldn't use a cork gasket if you gave it to me.

Cork gaskets suck ***. Dont waste your time or money.

the PO of my XJ installed the good Felpro gasket right before I bought it. That was almost 5 years ago and it hasnt leaked yet. I used one on a SBC oil pan and valve covers with the same result. I love them.
