Default cooling temp. send. unit

Where is the cooling temperature sending unit located on a straight six 1997 Jeep Cherokee? Want to try @ burp air from system. Any help would by greatly appreciated.

If I remember right, on my 96 the coolant temp sensor is screwed into that crazy ole thermostat housing?

The temp sensor on the t-stat housing is for the fan. The one for the gauge is on the drivers side of the head toward the firewall, at least on my '90 not 100% sure if that's where yours is.

On a 97 there isn't a sender on the head.

Bingo. 97+ the engine and gauge sensor are the same and the sensor is in the t-stat housing.
