Unhappy cooling question

I was wondering if someone can tell me why my 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a 318 is saying it's running hotter than it is on my guage when i put a new sensor in it? My old one broke at the plastic part, but wasn't reading hot like the new one is. I've changed the water pump, the thermastat, hoses, even had system flushed. Would disconnecting the battery and resetting the computer work to correct this? I didn't disconnect battery when I changed it. Please Help! I have to drive to Ft. Drum NY about 2 1/2 hrs away from me by myself.

Def try resetting the computer. Are you talking about the temp on dash gauge vs. The one on the little control screen under the.radio?
