so you wired in an aftermarket temp gauge....if thats the case you got some other stuff thats gonna go wrong too cause the one on the thermostat housing sends info to the ECM which relays certian air/fuel mixtures...kind of an important piece to the whole puzzle.

with no cat on the obd 2 it will spit code and the engine will go into a factory squence hense the idol it seems as though your timing could possibly be off. or u got a plug or wire fouling however have u ever thought of the thermastat? u can get bad thermastats and maybe it isnt kicking in or also check for wires on the cts ..... how bout ur fuel filter sounds stupid but if ur fuel filter is rusty/shot i have seen cars where they come in sounding terrible. with it not starting afterwards it could also be ur igntion coil.

fuel filter is in good shape, replaced recently. i know that the o2 sensor isnt causing this because it has a brand new upstream one and the downstream one has never been in place since i owned this (almost 2 years now) do you think a plug wire could possibly heat up and then make it run like crap? thermostat is definately opening, i have a 180 thermostat in i believe. i suppose its only a few bucks so it might be worth it just to change it anyway to be sure. ignition coil is relatively new.
